Use Dropbox as a CDN

A CDN (Content Delivery Network) is a network of servers designed to deliver web content faster and more efficiently. They are typically used for delivering content such as HTML pages, JavaScript files, stylesheets, images and videos.

Is it possible to use Dropbox as a CDN?

Files in Dropbox can be accessed directly by editing the query string at the end of the share link (by changing ?dl=0 to ?raw=1). This is explained in more detail in the following link: https://help.dropbox.com/share/force-download.

Using this method allows you to use Dropbox like a CDN for images, however it won't work for other common web files such as HTML, CSS or JavaScript. Also Dropbox may serve the images from a single geographical location, and therefore not function like a true CDN which is geographically distributed.

How can DropPages help?

Our DropPages service allows you to add files to a Dropbox folder and have them automatically accessible via a CDN. Our service is backed by AWS CloudFront, one of the industry leading CDN platforms from Amazon. Your files will be available via a droppages.net subdomain or your own domain, and will have an SSL certificate automatically configured.
